Yorkshire Junior Inter-Regional Regatta Trials

Leeds Rowing Club played host to the Yorkshire Junior Inter-Regional Regatta trials, with 75 junior crews from across the Yorkshire Region trialling to earn a spot wearing the Sky Blue for Yorkshire at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR) in April.

This was the largest ever entry for regional JIRR trials, and with 7 clubs participating, this was one of the largest spreads of clubs and schools trialling in recent years.

The weather gods held out and we were treated to a chilly but calm day of racing on the canal. As the hosts it was great to see all of the junior clubs and schools enjoying the experience, as well as the team work behind the scenes in running the event. It was equally great to see some excellent competition and broad spread of wins across the region.

For the Leeds Junior Academy athletes, they had a fantastic day of racing - especially in the J15 and J16 categories. In total Leeds Rowing Club has been selected to race in the following events:

J16 8+, WJ16 4x, J16 4x, WJ16 4-, J16 4+, WJ15 4+, J15 4x+, WJ16 2-, J15 2x, WJ15 2x, WJ16 1x (B), WJ15 1x (B)

A huge thanks to the Yorkshire JIRR team managers for working with Leeds Rowing Club to organise the event, all of the participating schools and clubs, to TS Ark Royal Sea Cadets for the use of their grounds, and to our parents for catering.

Finally a special thanks to Cymba Racing for the use of a SL Racing boats quad and Fluiddesign double.
