Leeds RC win the Victor Ludorum at Peterborough Jubilee Regatta

It was Jubilee Bank Holiday celebrations all round at Leeds Rowing Club as we had a hugely successful weekend of racing at Peterborough Jubilee Regatta.

The regatta this year coincided with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, so the regatta was one not to be missed with special winners tankards being awarded, and while some of our men’s crews were racing at the Metropolitan Regatta, the majority of our women’s crews went to Peterborough with the aim of picking up a couple of wins against some quality opposition.

The conditions on the Saturday were unpleasant with a strong headwind causing issues for all crews, but we came away with convincing wins in the Women’s Band 1 Eights and Women’s Band 1 Coxed Fours events plus 3rd place in the B Final of Open Band 2 Single Sculls, and 2nd in the B Final of Women’s Band 1 Double Sculls.

With a winning start to the weekend, Sunday would prove even more successful. Conditions went from windy to wet but the winning did not stop. Cory and Dan fresh from a very successful day of racing at Metropolitan Regatta teamed up to win the Open Band 1 Double Sculls event, and then take 2nd and 4th place in the A Final of Open Band 1 Single Sculls.

In preparation for British Masters Rowing Championships, our Masters Women’s double scull of Laura and Jessica came 2nd in Women’s Masters A Double Sculls.

The winning streak continued with a win for our Women’s Band 2 Quad Sculls, Women’s Band 1 Coxed Four, Women’s Band 1 Double Sculls and Brooke winning in style in her single in Women’s Band 2 Single Sculls.

While the wins exceeded all of our expectations, what we didn’t realise is that we would be a contender for the club with the most amount of overall wins over the weekend so we were delighted to win the Victor Ludorum and pick up the trophy for being the most successful club.

A huge thanks to all the athletes, coaches and supporters over the weekend and special thanks go to our friends at Leeds University Boat Club who trailered our boats and were amazing competitors and supporters with us. Thanks also go to Cross Keys Garage Morley for their continued support with a free loan of a towing vehicle.
