Success for Leeds RC at the Metropolitan Regatta

Our athletes aiming for Henley Royal Regatta made the trip down to Dorney Lake for the Metropolitan Regatta, one of the major domestic regattas of the season and a key competition for all athletes with Henley ambitions.

We had a number of crews racing over the weekend, the Saturday saw some thrilling results for our scullers with Cory and Dan making the A Final of Championship Single Sculls with Dan coming 4th and Cory 7th in the A Final. Emma teamed up with Sophie from Leeds University in the Women’s Championship Double Sculls and came 2nd in the B Final and Katie racing as Leander Club won silver in the A Final of Women’s Championship Double Sculls.

Our men’s eight had an excellent performance on the Saturday placing 11 out of 30 in the Club Eights time trial and came 3rd in the E Final setting themselves up nicely to do better on the Sunday.

Sunday would see much better conditions and racing proved to be incredibly exciting. Racing in the Women’s Championship Quad Sculls event as Leander/Leeds, Katie came away with the gold medal in the A Final which was a fantastic achievement. Buoyed by this success the men’s eight showed real potential in the Club Eights time trial and came 9th out of 27 crews beating many crews which had been faster than us throughout the season. The eight made the C Final and came 8th, just shy of beating the club 2k record for an eight.

Overall an outstanding weekend of racing at the Met, with progress made ready for Marlow. Huge thanks go to Newcastle University BC who kindly took our eight down to the Met and thanks to the University of York BC who took the WCS boats.
