Leeds RC at Henley Women’s Regatta

Leeds Rowing Club made another successful appearance at Henley Women’s Regatta, the most important women’s regatta in the racing calendar. This year we had one club crew entered as well as a number of Leeds RC athletes representing their home clubs.

This year we entered a coxed four into the Frank V Harry Cup for Development Coxed Fours. Out of a record entry of 57 crews into the event, we qualified in the final 16 which was a phenomenal achievement for the crew! Our round on the Friday afternoon saw the four against Exeter University. Despite leading out of the blocks and being level for over half of the race, Exeter slowly extended their lead to win.

Not only did our coxed four qualify, but we saw another of our World Class Start members, Emma Woods race as Sheffield University and qualify in the Aspirational Academic Coxless Fours.

Finally, Leeds RC member Katie Mole raced as Leander Club in the Championship Double Sculls event, where Katie and her teammate Imogen lost in the final to a strong Twickenham/Leander combination.

A huge well done to all of our athletes who competed at Henley Women’s Regatta. We are hugely proud of your achievements and thanks to everyone who has contributed this season to making sure the four became a reality and to all of the club members who supported on the day back in Leeds.

Huge thanks go to the University of Leeds Boat Club, not only for towing our boats but also for the huge support and camaraderie during the event. The Leeds presence was strong at Henley Women’s this year and a massive congratulations goes to their eight and to Sophie for qualifying in the Aspirational Academic Eights and Aspirational Coxless Quad events. The relationship between club and university is stronger than ever after this event.

Finally thanks as ever to Cross Keys Garage Morley for their free use of one of their Isuzu 4x4’s for towing. Your support throughout the season has been a game changer for rowing in Leeds.
