Henley Women’s Regatta

This years Henley Women’s Regatta was a scorcher on and off the water for Leeds Rowing Club.

Friday saw our Aspirational 4x just miss out by less than 2 seconds on qualification. With 50% of the crew making the switch from sweep rowing to learning to scull this regatta season, we’re proud of the progress the crew made in a short space of time.

Our junior crews on the Saturday also stepped up to the mark, the Junior Quad also narrowly missed out on qualification but set the bar for next season. With all four scullers between J16 - J17 watch out for more to come!

The Junior Four had a barnstormer of a qualification race - having literally been put together a few weeks ago with nearly all of the crew having to make the switch from two oars to one, these girls stepped up and proved their skill beating plenty of other more experienced sweep crews in the time trial.

The standout performance of the regatta was Emily in the Aspirational 1x. It was fantastic to see Emily smash the Time Trial, then just solidly do the work to make the final of the Aspirational 1x event. The whole of the women’s squad both at the regatta and at home were cheering her on right through to the finish line. An amazing achievement to have one of our club members progress so far.

A huge well done to all of our athletes who competed, a special mention as well to ex-LRC member Rebecca who won the Club 8+ event with Thames, it was great to see you accomplish that dream, and to junior coach Louise for winning the Aspirational 4x event as part of the PDA quad project!

Finally a huge thanks to the supporters and in particular the coaches who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to enable the athletes to compete.

As always, we are grateful for the support from Cross Keys Garage, Morley for the free use of one of their Izuzu 4x4’s and to Ciaran and Matt for towing duties.
