Henley Womens Regatta

If you can sum up of two years of hard work and put it into one regatta then Henley Womens Regatta was one of those moments.

The quad…

Take one Kiwi coach, four junior girls who seem to eat, sleep and breathe rowing, some of the most fantastically excitable parents and pack them off to Henley to have a crack at the WJ16 quad event.

If you’d have asked people at the club two years ago if we’d be taking a junior boat to Henley Womens Regatta, people would have said we’re not ready, but in true Leeds style the juniors had different ideas.

For the girls, with only eight spaces in the event it was a big ask, but they did amazing coming 12th in the time trial as the 4th fastest non-qualifier. For a crew which was 50% J15 and 50% J16 we couldn’t be prouder. The bar has been set for the younger juniors to follow next season!

The single…

Probably the happiest, most enthusiastic, and lively rower at the entire regatta was ready to take everyone on in the Aspirational Single Sculls event. Holly had a fantastic row but sadly came in as the fastest non-qualifier in the event, but we know she’ll be back ready for more!

A huge well done to Holly and to her coach Matt Mole for all of the hard work this season to date, it’s been great to see!

Away from our club crews, a special shoutout to lots of current, ex and student LRC members who were racing for different clubs:

  • Brooke - Ron Needs Cup Champ 8+ (Thames)

  • Charlotte - Ron Needs Cup Champ 8+ (Edinburgh Uni)

  • Evelyn - Ron Needs Cup Champ 8+ (Brookes C)

  • Ellen - Ron Needs Cup Champ 8+ (Marlow)

  • Emily - Ron Needs Cup Champ 8+ (SMU)

  • Rebecca - Lester Trophy Aspirational 4-(Thames A)

  • Katie - Borne Cup Champ 4x (Leander A)

It just shows how Leeds Rowing Club has played a pivotal role in the development of so many female athletes within our sport.

A huge thanks to everyone, especially the entire Junior Academy programme and wider club, who have been supporting the whole way. Thanks to Newcastle University BC for taking our boats down.
