Metropolitan and Peterborough Spring Regattas
The club went in two directions with the seniors heading to Dorney Lake for Metropolitan Regatta and the rest of the club seniors and masters heading to Peterborough Spring Regatta.
Met was a bit of a case of what ifs for us, with the coxed four entry being rejected on Saturday (answers on a postcard please) it left Holly and Ols and Finn G on their lonesome on Saturday.
Both crews did well, Ols and Finn learning the fine art of racing a pair with about two weeks of time together in the boat used Saturday as a good platform to get some race experience under their belt against a very strong field.
Holly was back into racing mode after a spell away with injury so had a good performance in a tough field.
Sunday was a less choppier affair (the conditions, not Connor’s rowing), and the four had a good race, lots learned but definitely more to come and a big step on from Notts City. The pair had a cracking B final with a result that didn’t reflect the quality of the rowing, the more they race the better they get.
Holly also had another strong performance in a field with some very experienced athletes, again a lot more to come this season!
Away from Met, the Sunday of Peterborough saw a small but very loud contingent from Leeds roll up. It was a really good days rowing with a real mix of club members racing for LRC for the first time and some it being their first ever race! Sadly no wins, but the marker was laid down for upcoming regattas for the club crews!
Special thanks to Alex at NUBC for taking our boats to Met and to Craig for towing down to Peterborough and of course to our sponsors Cross Keys Garage Morley for the free use of an Isuzu 4x4 tow vehicle.
