Silver for Lucas at the British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships

We thought that the seasons racing was over and we were mistaken! This time we left the flat water behind to take to the surf!

Lucas from our Junior Rowing Academy took part in the British Rowing Beach Sprints Championships. This was our first ever venture into Coastal Rowing, where the Beach Sprints will form part of the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

As well as being a Junior Rowing Academy member, Lucas also trains as part of the Yorkshire Performance Development Academy, and was identified through the training camps to try out Beach Sprint Rowing.

Following training with the North East (Coastal) Performance Development Academy, Lucas entered the CO J16 1x event. Beach Sprints involves a run, getting in the coastal sculling boat, racing out into the sea to turn around a buoy, racing back to the beach and then running from the boat to hit a buzzer on the sand.

Lucas smashed the CO J16 1x event winning Silver in the event. This makes Lucas a junior medalist at both the British Rowing Championships, and British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships!

Lucas’ work wasn’t finished though, he then stayed down on the south coast to trial for a slot in the mixed double for selection for the coastal version of the Coupe de la Jeunesse which will take place in October.

A huge well done to Lucas, and thanks to his family and the club coaches, PDA (Yorkshire and NE) coaches and all of the supporters in this new adventure!
