Christmas Pudding Head and Club Dinner finishes off 2023!

As is the time honoured tradition at Leeds Rowing Club, the years training comes to an informal end with a morning of racing on the canal at our annual Christmas Pudding Head.

In past years it’s been a smaller event with seniors and masters crews, but with our expanded junior programme, we had to think bigger this year!

This year the racing had to expand to two divisions racing over 2750m with 39 crews from the juniors, seniors, masters, the Performance Development Academy and Leeds University all taking part.

We had some excellent racing throughout the morning and the whole club came together to enjoy the competition and the food put on by the junior parents. It was especially good to see many ex-members come back for the racing!

The winning crews were -

  • Fastest mens crew - LRC Men’s Eight

  • Fastest women’s crew - LRC Women’s Eight (Division One)

  • Fastest junior boys crew - LRC Junior Eight (Empacher)

  • Fastest junior girls crew - LRC WJ16 2x (Jess/Liv)

  • Highest GMT% - LRC WJ16 2x (Jess/Liv)

To finish off the day, the club held it’s annual Christmas Dinner at Headingley Stadium, where members from the whole club at both our Stourton and Roundhay sites along with many former members and student members all came together for a great evening.

As always there was the legendary Saul speech and the awards, and this years awards went to -

  • Best Newcomer - Chloe

  • Most Improved Female - Anne-Mairead

  • Most Improved Male - Miguel

  • The Golden Crab Award - Matt P (and friends!)

A thank you to all of our current and former members for coming along for the day and making it so special and a special thanks to Gav for organising the Christmas Pudding Head and to Susie for organising the Christmas Dinner.

That’s 2023 wrapped up. What a year! Onwards to 2024!
