Gold at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta

The 2024 Regatta season officially kicked off in triumphant style with a hugely successful day for Leeds Rowing Club juniors representing Yorkshire at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta in Nottingham.

The club had a huge presence in the Yorkshire team this year and our juniors were determined to make themselves known with a hugely successful day of racing across the whole junior squad from our J14’s through to our J16’s. The highlight of which was the WJ16 2x of Liv racing with Bella from Bradford Grammar School BC winning gold. This was a first for Leeds, having never won a medal at the JIRR before.

The strength in depth of the squad meant that we were able to help the Yorkshire team make a huge number of A finals, helping the region to climb to its highest ever placing at the JIRR.

Results as follows:

  • WJ16 4- 6th in A final

  • J16 4+ 2nd in B final (8th overall)

  • J15 4+ 5th in A final

  • WJ15 4x+ 1st in B final (7th overall)

  • WJ14 4x+ 5th in A final

  • WJ16 8+ (regional composite) 6th in A final

  • J16 8+ 2nd in B final (8th overall)

  • WJ16 2x (composite with BGSBC) - Gold

  • WJ15 2x 6th in A final

  • J15 2x 6th in A final

  • J14 2x 2nd in B final (8th overall)

  • J16 1x 3rd in C final (21st overall)

  • J15 1x 3rd in B final (15th overall)

A huge thanks to the coaches for all of their hard work in preparing for the event, and to the parents for their amazing enthusiasm as always. A special mention goes to Jess and Ryan from St Peters and Yarm Schools for their hard work as the Yorkshire Team Managers making this one of the best regional teams to date!
